Where Are We Headed?
My heart is heavy with all that is happening today in our nation; the so-called peaceful demonstrations, all the killings, the destruction of public and private property, in inaction of local leaders, the disrespect for Christian teachings, fear being instilled in peoples, the disrespect for law enforcement...and on and on. And now the latest... revising our nation's history, removing statues of historical and on and on... Recently, I heard someone say:
"A nation with no history has no future.”
This prompted me to think about God sending His only Son into the world to be one of us in all things, but sin. Where would we be today without Jesus and his disciples; especially those who are with us this very day? Sad to say, but Christianity is under attack, as well. We are not only hearing disparaging comments, but destruction of churches, desecration of sacred statues, closing of churched due to the pandemic...and late last year the Navy in San Diego cancelling all Catholic Masses for cost savings. Fortunately this decision has since been overturned. Thank God.
Where are we headed? I don't know, but it doesn't look good. People moving away from cities where the demonstrations are taking place, businesses being permanently closed, civic leaders being of little or no help, law enforcement personnel resigning...and this may only be the beginning
Does this sound familiar? This is why history is important to learn without being altered by those who choose to indoctrinate rather than to educate. In 1933 Hitler appointed Hermann Goring Minister of the Interior. His first orders were to defund and eliminate police departments so that
they would not interfere with his Brown Shirts whose mission it was to riot, burn, beat up and kill citizens in an effort to sway the elections. Heaven help us. Allow me to close this Deacon's Corner with a couple of random thoughts and a very brief prayer: In our modern world many people tend to devalue and even reject solid Christian values and there is a decided absence of hope and they turn to what we are currently witnessing. Saint Thomas Aquinas had a somewhat humorous comment about those who are most hop "The most hopeful people in the world are the young and the drunk. The first because they have little experience of failure, and the second because they have succeeded in drowning theirs." I am not suggesting that anyone go out and get drunk, but that we live in strong hope and trust in God's divine guidance...and that the divine guidance may touch those creating today's problems. Scripture tells us; "Fear not when you walk through the waters, I am with you, I have called you by name," St. Thomas More once said: "I will not mistrust (God), though I shall feel myself weakening and on the verge of being overcome with fear.... I trust he shall place his holy hand on me and in the stormy seas hold me up from drowning."
Pray that the USA be reborn into the freedom of the God's Spirit... Deacon Loris
