Batteries are recyclable, so do not throw your used batteries in the trash. It is also illegal in some states to do so, the primary reason being the danger of lithium-ion batteries in particular starting a fire. It has happened that garbage trucks, when compacting trash containing lithium-ion batteries, have started the garbage on fire. See
