This weekend we will have our annual diocesan Missionary Appeal Cooperative Sunday, commonly called "Mission Appeal Sunday". This year we are hosting Sylvia's Children
Residing in New Jersey, Sylvia Allen discovered the face of poverty during a trip to Tanzania and Uganda. In response, she and her husband Tom founded a non-profit organization dedicated to feeding, clothing, housing and educating hundreds of African children. Using her skills as a marketing/sales consultant and a motivational speaker, she now advocates towards meeting the needs of children in these far-flung lands.
Serving as their "spiritual grandmother", she is helping to provide the resources to build schools, libraries, dormitories for students and teacher housing and educational supplies. The foundation is also instrumental in working to support the towns in which these facilities are located: building wells, medical supplies and staff, even musical and sporting equipment.
Sylvia will be speaking at all of the Masses this weekend and a special collection to benefit Sylvia's Children will be taken during the Offertory. I would ask you to consider prayerfully making a contribution towards her efforts in providing for God's children.
