COMMUNITY NEWS
CALLING ALL STUDENTS!
We can't wait to welcome everyone back in person to our beloved spaces in Anabel Taylor Hall! In preparation for the Fall, the ministry staff will be tweaking some of our rooms to make them more usable and welcoming. As part of this effort, we want to find new names for the "Lounge" and "Redlin Room" which better reflect the rooms' functions and which sound inviting to students. Can you help? Please make your suggestions
here by July 25. Then check back on Flocknote next week to cast your vote!
THIS CATHOLIC LIFE, WEEK 2
This week in our series, This Catholic Life: Real Talk about Living as Catholic in the Contemporary World, we consider the pastoral care of LGBT Catholics in our communities. Stepping back from theological debates about sexuality and focusing on LGBT Catholics as individuals, what are ways in which a church community can care for this group—as people, not as problems? What are responsible and compassionate ways to navigate difficult discussions with roommates and friends? Sign up for the e-mail list by registering here, or just stop by for the session on Thursday, July 22 at 8pm. Here's the Zoom info: ID 942 2816 6089, Pswd 292863)
GLOBAL CATHOLIC NEWS
The Catholic Church made headlines in the major media outlets last Friday when Pope Francis issued a motu proprio* entitled
Traditionis custodes ("Guardian of the tradition). In this document, Pope Francis restricted many of the provisions granted by Pope Benedict XVI and St. John Paul II to celebrate the Mass in the "Extraordinary Form" (i.e., using the older liturgical books). You can read the
motu proprio and Pope Francis's
accompanying letter on the
Vatican website. If you want to talk about what this means and the context for Pope Francis's decisions, come to
This Catholic Life (above) to talk to the ministry staff, or reach out to Fr. Dan (dtm33@cornell.edu) or campus minister Matthew Hall (mh968@cornell.edu).
*What's a motu proprio? "Motu proprio" literally means "by one's (own) proper motion (= initiative)." Letters issued by motu proprio are laws issued by the pope himself on his authority as the Supreme Legislator of the Church.
