Dear Saint Augustine Family,
Today we celebrate the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. In several of the scriptures we read the theme of shepherding is prominently mentioned. There is nothing fun, satisfying or fulfilling about being lost, confused, or certainly abandoned and in darkness. Psalm 23 reminds us that God is a Shepherd who provides for our needs and guides us even through dark valleys.
Jesus, the Good Shepherd sees the crowds lost in ignorance and in desperate need of answers to life’s critical questions. They would not be disappointed that day. Like the Good Shepherd he is, Jesus fed them with knowledge and understanding. Are you desperate for answers, meaning, direction, purpose? “Come to me”, Jesus says. He will feed you the truth that will satisfy your deepest hunger.
