Should I mask up or not mask up? Should I get vaccinated, and if do, what vaccine do I get? Should I eat in the restaurant, outside the restaurant, or just get take out? Should I physically go to church or should I just continue to watch the mass on my computer?
Even when we are not in the middle of a pandemic, life can be pretty confusing—and I’m not even going to mention dealing with a change of pastor—or parish. For all of us, there will be times in our lives when we may feel like sheep without a shepherd, wandering aimlessly, not knowing where to go or what to do, with all the accompanying anxiety and fear.
It is important, though, that we remember that during times of confusion we are only like sheep without a shepherd. We actually have a shepherd, and his name is Jesus Christ. We can get so caught up in our state of confusion that we lose sight of Jesus, the one we can trust to lead us out of our confusion, the one we can trust to guide us to where he wants us to be—which is always the right place.
We sheep should not be looking around, distracted by all the confusion that has invaded whatever calm we formerly had in our lives. Instead, we should look for and look to Jesus, the shepherd of our souls, for he is the one who can bring us peace.
NEXT WEEKEND: HONOR OUR SENIORS!
Next weekend we will mark the first annual World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, established by Pope Francis to recognize and honor the senior members of of the Church. It would be a great time to bring or accompany to church important seniors in your life.
VOTIVE CANDLES
Those wishing to light votive candles in the church are welcome to do so. Please remember to maintain your social distancing when gathered around the candle stands and to place your offering in the designated boxes.
PAPER BULLETINS ARE BACK!
Pick up your copy on the tables in back of church or on the racks near the side exits. You may also continue to read the bulletin online on our parish website. This weekend's bulletin includes some biographical information about our new parochial vicar, Fr. Gabriel.
TAKE CARE
Given the alarming news that many parts of our country--including parts of our own state of California--are seeing a resurgence of the virus, it is important that we not become overconfident about our own safety or the safety of others, even if we are fully vaccinated. Be sure to maintain your social distancing and wear a mask if you are in a large crowd or if your are mixing with people whose vaccination status is unknown to you. Please be aware that for the good health of all, Fr. Gabriel and I will give you a friendly greeting without shaking hands.
