The Mumbled Part of Mass
The Nicene Creed, for many people, feels like a bunch of big words and concepts that we just mumble through. But it’s actually a very concise statement of what Christians believe, filled with many statements that were debated ferociously during the first centuries of the Church. The Creed is a one-page summary of all we heard in Scripture. It is us responding to the great word of God. We say YES, we believe and affirm. Now that we have heard what our loving God has done, answering our prays and keeping His promises, we then offer our petitions. (Video Length 8:25 minutes)
Questions for Reflection:
- Where did the Nicene Creed come from?
- What was the Arian heresy? Why was denying it so important to the continuation of Christianity?
- How does the Creed negate the popular idea that Jesus was just a great moral teacher?
