Holiness 101--Are We There Yet?
Once when Dorothy Day was told that she would be a saint when she died, she said, "Before you ask for my intercession in heaven, get me out of Purgatory!"
When did we get to the point where going immediately to Heaven was no longer an option? Shouldn't the goal be to bypass Purgatory? If this can all be accomplished before leaving earth, what do we need to know to get to Heaven? This is an invitation to learn "How to be Holy".
Please join us for a life-changing experience with Fr. Richard Wise exploring the paths that lead to holiness. It will be time well spent in learning about holiness and then putting into practice what you've learned in your own life every day. It's worth eternity spent with God in Heaven to attend. Your soul depends on it!!!
This 4-week class will begin Tuesday, August 24th, and meet every Tuesday through September 14th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. There is recommended reading material available for purchase and all in attendance will need a Bible and a Catechism of the Catholic Church. The parish would like to begin a home-school assistance program for families who are currently or would like to begin homeschooling their children. What is Purgatory?
Purgatory is not our “goal’ as Christians. Heaven is our God-given goal and we should keep our eye on that prize and live accordingly.
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died in sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.(Romans 6:1-4)
Purgatory comes from the Latin word “Purgatorium”.Its Hebrew origin in the Old Testament is “Sheol” and its Greek origin in the New Testament is “Hades”. Each of these is a reference to an afterlife that is neither the hell of the damned nor heaven. Purgatory is the place where the soul is cleansed of all impurities.Purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven, which is experienced by those who die in God’s grace and friendship but are still imperfectly purified.If at the end of a Christian’s earthly life, this debt of justice was not satisfied, he/she shall be purified in purgatory before entering heaven.

Prayer Before Mass
St. Francis is looking for anyone who would be interested in reading the Prayer Before Mass at all the Masses. The prayers are emailed in advance with plenty of time for reading, studying, and contemplating its content. Update on Mount St. Joseph Vocational Institute
Remember our Parish Lenten Almsgiving Mission? Well here is a brief update on how things have been going! Progress is going great on Mount St. Joseph Vocational Institute. There are 21 men working daily and living on-site as they are not allowed to move out due to the Covid Lockdown. The men are broken up into teams working on the classroom building, dormitory, kitchen and restrooms. We thank you for your continued prayers and support!
Festival Worker's Lunches: Supplies Needed
It’s time to replenish food donations for the Festival Workers’ Lunches. Rita Casey is requesting donations of large cans of tuna, sliced ham, rye, wheat and white bread, desserts, deviled eggs, chips, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, celery, coleslaw, tossed salad, mac & cheese, soup, iced tea and soda. Meeting for Homebound Ministry
The mission of the Ministry for the Homebound is to connect with our brothers and sisters of the St. Francis faith community who are alone, dealing with illness, dying, or simply restricted to their home, by bringing them the Gospel, the Most Holy Eucharist, and the faith tradition of the Catholic Church.
Anyone interested in participating in this ministry and those currently in the ministry are invited to meet with Fr. Mario in room 5 (conference room) on July 25th at 12:15 p.m.

Motorcycle Ride and Retreat

(Rain date Thursday, July 29) We're trying something new - a retreat and motorcycle ride combined. The group will meet at St. Francis at 10:00 (in room 5) and mix a motorcycle ride with some spiritual food for thought. The ride will be around 200 miles, returning to Blairsville around 3:30. Veiling
For many millenia, women have been told that their hair is their crowning glory. When a woman wears a veil to Mass, it is recognition, in humility, that a woman's true crowning glory is Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Starting July 24th and 25th, there will be a basket of veils in several colors, for any woman who may choose to wear a veil to Mass. A $5 donation is requested in order to replenish the supply of veils.
Schoenstatt Movement
The Schoenstatt movement is a movement that started in Germany many years ago. Schoenstatt is a movement to bring Our Blessed Mother, Mary Thrice Admirable, into our homes and, as families, pray the Rosary. Mary visits a different home each week. She is in the form of a beautiful icon and is picked up at the church each Sunday to visit another home. Wouldn't we all love to have Our Blessed Mother visit our homes?
