Dear St. Rose Family:
I wanted to share with you about the culture of unceasing prayer. I talked to you about this a couple of weeks ago. How do we create a culture, not just a decision for a one time event, but a way of living that we each do as individuals and that we do as a parish of unceasing prayer. I have been giving this a lot of thought; how do I cultivate a culture of unceasing prayer at the parish.
For the month of August, I want to start to cultivate a culture of unceasing prayer and give the opportunities that I can give, so every day I will make available Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in Church from Tuesday - Saturday 6:30 am - 7:15 am. Confessions will continue from 7:30 am - 7:50 am, followed by daily Mass at 8:00 am. If this morning Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament/Adoration grows in number attending, we have the potential to maintain the Exposition from 6:30 am until just before 8:00 am Mass (7:50 am).
Also, during the Month of August, I will be starting up Adoration again on all Fridays from 7pm-8:50 pm in church, (when I am here). Benediction at 9:00 pm.
Come for 5 minutes, 15 minutes, or an hour, whatever works for your schedule.
I want to invite you to help create a culture of unceasing prayer. What do you want to do in your heart, in your family, in our parish to create a culture of unceasing prayer where it becomes our reflex our natural attitude our inclination to turn to prayer in our time of need. Please reflect on that because it takes all of us. It is not something we demand from anyone, but an invitation.
Finally, you have heard a lot about the masks, Multnomah County has put out a new recommendation to wear a mask indoors even if you are vaccinated. There is controversy, and I expect this is going to be a very confusing time for everyone. The recommendation is to wear a mask; by all means if you want to please do wear a mask. At this time it is not a requirement, but do what you think is best for you. I don't want to create a culture of fear, or be inspired to act by fear. Honor one another, and respect what other people think it is best for themselves and the community around them at this time, knowing it is the recommendation and not the requirement.
God Bless You,
Fr. Matt
