As Easy as Our Blessings
The chorus of this song goes:
Up in Heaven, sometimes I wonder if God sits there & listens to all His children thinking.
It’d be nice if we’d forget our troubles as easy as our blessings.
Every morning when we wake up, is this not a gift? The Lord is giving us another opportunity to make a difference in someone else’s life. It can be as easy as a smile given to someone who needs a friend. It can be as major as becoming an organ donor that in turn gives others an opportunity for a better life. Jesus calls us to serve; but who do we serve? We serve the Lord by taking care of all creation.
We are all given Time, Talent, and Treasures. “The world asks, what does a man own? Christ asks, how does he use it?” (Andrew Murray) How can we not give back, what has so graciously been given to us? Can you say a decade of the rosary for someone who is ill or someone who is less fortunate? Can you greet parishioners as they enter for Mass? (Time) Can you help with funeral dinners or Monthly Grace Meals? Can you assist with forming young disciples of Christ? (Talent) Can you give some of the extra food in your pantry once a month to St. Vincent De Paul? (Treasure) “For who sees anything different in you? What have you, that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you, boast as if it were not a gift?” (1 Corinthians 4:7)
As it says in 2 Corinthians chapter 3. God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called. Our Parish and our community need YOU! Whether it’s Time, Talent, or Treasure. We are called to give back to people less fortunate than us. If you feel you are being called to a Parish ministry, don’t be shy! God will give you all the tools you need to accomplish His will. As Pope Francis said: “The Church is like a great orchestra in which there is a great variety. We are not all the same, and we do not all have to be the same. We are all different, varied, each of us with our own special qualities. And this is the beauty of the Church: everyone brings their own gifts, which God has given, for the sake of enriching others.”
As it says in 1 Timothy 6: 6-7: “There is great gain in godliness with contentment; for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world; but if we have food and clothing, with these shall we be content.” There is great need in the Parish, our Country, and the World. Can you make a difference, yes YOU can? The best way to start is to begin. The singer Charlie Daniels said about this verse: “The man who gets what he wants is successful, but the man who wants what he gets is happy.”
