40 HOURS of DEVOTION
It is a tradition of the Church to spend the days before a Feast Day in prayer and Adoration. Beginning on Thursday, August 12 after the 7:30 am Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed upon the Altar in the Church and we will have approximately 40 hours of Adoration until Sunday morning.
In order to facilitate this great devotion, help is needed!
Jesus Christ in The Blessed Sacrament must be attended continuously as long as He remains exposed on the Altar.
Volunteers are needed to pray in the church for a single hour. All in the
parish are asked to participate in this devotion in some way. We are asking parish groups to take an hour. If you are unable to spend an hour with Our Lord, please support it with your prayers.
This is an opportunity to gather as a community, offering thanks to almighty God for the gift of this parish, the gift of our Faith, and the gift of the Most Holy Eucharist. It is also an opportunity to pray for our parish, our priests, our families, our friends and ourselves.
Finally, it is an opportunity to grown in devotion to Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

WHY 40 HOURS OF DEVOTION? The number “40” has great importance to Christians. It has always signified a sacred period of time. The rains during the time of Noah lasted 40 days and nights, the Jews wandered through the desert for 40 years, our Lord fasted and prayed for 40 days before beginning His public ministry. The 40 Hours Devotion remembers that traditional “forty- hour period” from our Lord’s burial until the resurrection. In the Middle Ages, the Blessed Sacrament was transferred to the repository, “the Easter Sepulcher,” for 40 hours to signify our Lord’s time in the tomb. When we see the number forty used to denote time in the Bible, we are being told that something extraordinary and definitive is happening.
Let these 40 Hours of Devotion be life-changing for you and your family.
