Memorial of Saint Monica
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It is with great sadness that I have to announce that we will be canceling the Fall Festival that was scheduled for Saturday, September 18th here at the Cathedral. The Fall Festival Committee and I decided this was the best and most appropriate course of action considering the new health guidelines issued this past Thursday by the Unified Government of Wyandotte County.
The new guidelines limit social gatherings for those who are vaccinated to 25 people outdoors and 10 people indoors. For those who are not vaccinated, the same limit of 25 people, with distancing and masks applies, and the recommendation is to avoid indoor gatherings whenever possible. For those who are vaccinated and for those who are not, we are still under a mask mandate when social distancing is not possible. The Unified Government issued these guidelines because of the recent spike in COVID cases in our county, and because our vaccination numbers are rather low.
The Cathedral depends on the funds that we raise at Fall Festival. So even though we are canceling the physical gathering of September 18th, we will continue with our raffle, and look at other ways we can support our Cathedral Parish. The Fall Festival committee is going to be thinking of a later date on which we can have a festival and come together as a community.
I thank all of you who donated items and funds to support the Fall Festival. I am so touched by your generosity. I also want to thank Megan Wheeler, Kim Cummings, Yadira Martinez and all the members of our Fall Festival Committee. They put in so much time and energy into planning the Fall Festival.
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests about your donations, please contact Megan Wheeler at (913) 244-2052 or you can contact me at the parish office at (913) 371-8557 or at
rector@cathedralkck.org.
I am saddened that we are in this position, but we all must do our part and make these sacrifices to keep each other safe. Please stay safe! Please be prudent! If you have not received the vaccine, please prayerfully consider doing so and please be sure to take the extra precautions to keep yourself and others safe.
Let us entrust ourselves anew to the Lord, the Divine Physician, pray all the more for an end to this pandemic, healing to those who have and are suffering from it, and consolation to those who have lost a loved one to the coronavirus.
Yours in the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Father Saiki
