The weekend of Labor Day is upon us, which means we are coming to the end of another great summer season. I especially want to thank all of our visitors who have graced our churches this year. Know we welcome you back with open arms. And parishioners, please realize that in earnest, we begin many programs after Labor Day, so keep your eyes peeled for those events and meetings in the bulletin, on our website, and in our weekly email newsletter. I am hoping that we will be able to add some of the events that were cancelled during Covid, but can be re-started again this fall. Finally, if you haven’t yet had the opportunity to go to a daily Mass this year, I invite you to do so! There is a regular daily Mass at the Cathedral at 7 AM (8 AM during the school year on Wednesdays), and at 12:10 PM at Star of the Sea downtown (with confessions from 11:30 to 12 noon). Have a good end of summer and enjoy the following Labor Day poem!
THEY WHO TREAD THE PATH OF LABOR
By Henry Van Dyke
They who tread the path of labor
follow where My feet have trod;
They who work without complaining,
do the holy will of God;
Nevermore thou needest seek Me;
I am with thee everywhere;
Raise the stone, and thou shalt find Me,
cleave the wood and I am there.
Where the many toil together,
there am I among My own;
Where the tired workman sleepeth,
there am I with him alone:
I, the Peace that passeth knowledge,
dwell amid the daily strife;
I, the Bread of Heav'n am broken
in the sacrament of life.
Every task, however simple,
sets the soul that does it free;
Every deed of love and mercy,
done to man is done to Me.
Nevermore thou needest seek Me;
I am with thee everywhere;
Raise the stone, and thou shalt find Me;
cleave the wood, and I am there.
