THIS WEEK:
What an interesting week with Halloween thrown right into the middle of it! I hope you are all enjoying the trick or treat goodies as you look at the pictures I posted from our Halloween party on Facebook! If you haven’t seen them…go check them out. It’s on the St. James 4 year old preschool page!
THANK YOU so very much for everyone that helped with the kids! We got them dressed in record time this year! We couldn’t have done it without you! Also, a great big THANK YOU to Jeanette Stransky for providing the fun games, for Megan Fluharty for providing the delicious cookies and to Catalina Hernandez for providing the juice boxes! What a great afternoon!
We have been learning about syllables! It was first presented to us in our Read It Again curriculum. The kids are catching on really quickly to how many parts are in a word. They even figured out that a big word like hippopotamus has 5 syllables or parts & 12 letters! They were pretty awe struck by that!
Next week & thru the month of November, we will be learning about ourselves & our families. We are all unique and so are our families! Today in the backpacks is a white piece of paper that is your HOMEWORK! Yes, even in preschool we give out homework! It is pretty simple really! Please either have your child draw a picture of your family or attach a family picture & fill out the questions below that! See if your child can hear the first sound of the word and write that letter! For example: “My family likes to eat pizza.” Sound out the word pizza with your child & see what letters they can write. Don’t worry about the appropriate spelling! There are too many rules for them to learn all of them right now! Just see what they can do! For families that are separated by divorce, I would love to have the other parent complete this activity also. I can send those home also! Please just let me know!
If you haven’t turned in your Super Family picture, you got a paper about that also earlier in the week! Please send it!
A quick note about the weather: We go outside every day unless the wind chill is below 15 degrees. It is good for all of us to breath in fresh air, to run around and to explore the outside and how it’s changing right now. PLEASE send warm coats, hats & gloves to school! We want your child to be warm when we go out!
READING BUDDIES: I have had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Eichelberger’s 2nd grade as our reading buddies for the last 3 years! This year, Mrs. Eichelberger & I decided to add to our reading buddies program & we need your help! Keep reading! We meet on Tuesday about 2:25 to 2:40 (ish). We have decided that we would like to add a community project to our times together & also an adult reading aspect to our Tuesday’s! This is where you come in!
The 1st Tuesday of the month will be our Project Day. We will be doing an activity or craft that we can take out into the community or in some cases, to you, the parents! We both feel very strongly about sharing school with others & this is a great way to give back!
The 2nd Tuesday of the month is our Adult Readers Day. (This is where you come in!) We would like 1 parent from the preschool class & 1 parent from the 2nd grade class to come in and read to us as a whole group! I will be sending out times and dates as soon as I can! We will provide the books, you just get to come & hang out with us for a little bit!
The 3rd & 4th Tuesday’s we will have our reading buddies as usual. The 2nd graders will come to us or we may switch it up & go to them & read books!
Be watching for more information!
WATER BOTTLES: We have had our first real round of sickness with 2 kids out this week with fever and/or vomiting. PLEASE wash the water bottles thoroughly! Don’t forget to send them back on Monday! We are starting to run out of cups for the kids that forget them! It is also helpful as we have fewer spills!
SNACK: Keegan & his family provided snack this week! What a great conversation we had about the hard-boiled eggs! More kids than I thought took them & tried to figure out how to “open” them! They had lots of fine motor practice with peeling eggs! One little girl even declared this “The best snack ever!” and the Keegan’s mom was the “Coolest” for sending them! Some liked them, some didn’t but they at least tried them & for some, this was a new food! Thank you to Keegan and his family for the great snack!
Next week’s Snack-A-Nator is Jacob Canales.
SUPERHERO OF THE WEEK: Jacob was our Superhero of the week! Jacob just grinned and grinned as I went through his poster! He was super proud to show off the poster!
Next week’s Superhero will be Trax Hansen!
CONFERENCES & BOOK FAIR: Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 9th & Tuesday, November 14th! If you haven’t already turned in your conference form, please do so immediately! The Scholastic book fair will be held during that time too! Volunteers are needed to help with the book fair! If you are able to help, contact Becky in the office. 653-3631
