We made it to three days a week! And it was so successful! I think we will be ready for next week with four days.
This week we kept working on the rules of our classroom and playground. We talked each day before going out that we slide down the slide and go up the ladder. We talked about walking feet in the classroom. We talked about not screaming in the bathroom, even though it is fun to hear our voices echo and be louder.
One thing that is a new concept for some in this class is walking in a line. We look at who is in front of us and work to stay behind that person. Something else I'm seeing is our class isn't ready to listen to a story longer than 5 pages. We will work on sitting on our bottoms, hands to ourself, and staying in our spot (not roaming the carpet). Again, we are learning together and this is only the second week. I know these kiddos can do it!
We finished drawing a picture of what we look like and writing our name. These will be hung in the hallway for everyone to see. I am also starting to get a baseline for where everyone is at with their name writing, colors, numbers, letters and their sounds.
We read our story of the week, Clifford Goes to Dog School. We listened to this story twice and talked about what we remember happening in the story. Next week I will continue with this story and we will talk about where the story takes place. I will then pull the students in small groups to tell me about the story to work on recall, the order of the story, and where the story takes place.
I had been thinking of starting our letters this week, however I think I"m going to wait another week or two to really get into our routine and our schedule before starting this. We are still adjusting to being in school. I am working on our schedule. I have been feeling out the class and how best to use our time for what is best for our students.
A few things about drop off and pick up:
Please park in the parking lot across from school and walk your child across using the cross walk. Please do not park across the street and walk across. This is for safety reasons. It is also a rule for the school.
Sign your child in or out on the blue clipboard.
In the morning Miss Flor or I will walk your child to the classroom. Please let us.
In the afternoon your child will be sitting on the bench in the lobby. When I see you I will call your child to walk to you. Please do not call for them. This is for safety reasons.
As always, check Facebook for pictures of what we did this week. Please follow my link and like ME and I will add you to our PreK page.
And if you child isn't feeling well please keep them home. We have had lots of runny noses and coughs this week. I know allergies are ramping up with all the pollen, ragweed, and dust.
Have a great weekend! And thanks for sharing your students with me.
Miss Cole
