Dear Parishioners,
This past week, I had the most wonderful opportunity to take part in the Serra Club Night at the Ballpark with over 400 priests, deacons, religious and seminarians from Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. It was a night with great excitement as Albert Pujols stepped inside the batter’s box with the crowd on their feet for an ovation. There was also much excitement in the stands, where many of the priests and religious men and women connected with each other throughout the game. The evening was made possible by the Serra Club of St. Louis, which is a lay apostolate that supports and promotes vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life.
As our country calls to mind the 20th Anniversary of the 9/11 attack on our country, our parish church welcomes First Responders throughout the Archdiocese for the Annual Blue Mass this weekend. The first “Blue Mass” was celebrated in Washington, DC, a little over 82 years ago. It is a great opportunity to come together, share our faith in the Lord, and ask the Lord for guidance and strength as these men and women fulfill their daily duties, which are difficult.
While riding my bike last Saturday, I was overwhelmed by the Flags of Valor event on Art Hill. The emotion I felt is hard to explain. It was a solemn experience of rows and rows of flags, each equidistant, paying tribute to a person who fought the War on Terror and was taken too soon from us. Standing at the base of Art Hill, you hear the whisper of the American flags and the clinking of dog tags. It is as if each of those men and women is softly speaking to you.
