Dear CtRCS Families,
Our hearts are full of joy and pride to share with you that CtRCS's very own Sophia Tunison was selected as one of the winners of the iWrite 2021 Publishing Contest. Her story, "A Spring Story of Hope and Teamwork" is one of the short stories selected from 400 entries from all over the world. Her story will be published in the 2021 iwrite Short Stories by Kids for Kids Publishing Contest's Anthology Vol. 12. What makes Sophia's story even more special is that she has written it in both Spanish and English! I've shared both below. Her story fits perfectly into our theme of Stronger Together!

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us last Friday for our first Crusader Volunteer Community (CVC) meeting of the year! It was wonderful to see so many faces and to be together.

Since last week (from 9/9-9/16) we have had five (5) additional positive individuals and fifty-two (52) students who are/were out for quarantine, testing, and/or illness.
Please read the important update from Nurse Haynes below, which should make it simpler to return to school if you are out for testing or symptomatic.
Back to School Nights
We are excited for the return of our Back to School Nights beginning tonight. On Thursday, Sept. 16 and Thursday, Sept. 23, we welcome our families to return to campus for 2 in-person sessions in your child's classroom. This is an opportunity for parents to see their child(ren)'s classroom (s), hear about the curriculum, and have an opportunity to ask questions. For the safety of everyone on campus, we ask that all adults wear a mask and for each family to only send 1 adult to each classroom. To ensure that everyone's focus can be on curriculum and the presentations, we ask that only adults attend. Please do not bring the children.
For our families who prefer to view from home, our last session will be conducted via Zoom. Please look for a link in your child's grade level Flocknote this Friday. All Zoom sessions will be recorded and shared in the following week's Flocknote.

Students and Families! Meet us at the Flagpole the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 7:10 a.m. for a moment of prayer. See You at the Pole is a global event where students meet at flagpoles to pray for their schools. You may park in carline and walk over, or park in a parking space - just don't park in our carline lanes!
Parent University - Sept. 30
CtRCS is pleased to bring back our Parent University. The first Parent University will be held on Sept. 30 in the RAC Auditorium, right after morning arrival. The topic of the day is our new standardized testing tool, the NWEA MAP Growth test, which our students are taking for the first time throughout the month of September. During this Parent University, we will provide information about the new testing, how it works, how often we will complete it, and how we use the data.
For anyone who prefers to watch via Livestream, we will provide a secure YouTube link, much like we did for Parent Orientation. If you choose to attend in person, please be sure to wear a mask.
As of 9/13/2021, the Catholic Schools Office (CSO) has provided updated information regarding Covid-19 testing. The updated information provided by the CSO states:
In collaboration with the surrounding health departments, it was decided to offer rapid antigen testing as an option for detecting Covid-19. If an individual is symptomatic, they may return to campus if they obtain a negative PCR OR rapid antigen test. Individuals must be symptom-free to return. “Over the Counter” at home tests ARE NOT accepted. You may still choose to not test and return on day 11 as long as you are symptom-free. Again, these options are only for those that are symptomatic.
IF an individual is testing on day 5 of a quarantine (due to exposure or close contact), they are required to receive a PCR test since this test detects COVID-19 at its lowest genetic sequence for non-symptomatic individuals.
Please refer to our updated covid flow chart for reference. I still recommend contacting me if your child has symptoms or has had exposure. We can work collaboratively to ensure proper testing and quarantine is provided. I appreciate all families that have been patient with illnesses this school year! Working together as a team is crucial to ensure not only your child’s health and safety but ensures the health and safety of all of those in our Crusader community. If your child has any symptoms consistent with Covid-19, please keep them home and contact the nurse’s office. As a reminder, please do not medicate your child and send them to school. When kids are not feeling their best, they are also not in a healthy mindset for learning. Keeping ill children home also ensures their classmates have a healthy learning environment. If you are unsure if your child should come to school, please call me.
As we are experiencing high volumes of testing and high volumes of patients in doctor’s offices, testing and making appointments can be challenging at times. I work closely with our health department and can offer you options with regard to available testing sites. I am working diligently to help our students stay healthy, safe AND return to school in a timely manner. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
