Our plants really are growing amazingly fast! This week we observed how quickly our painted lady caterpillars have been growing too. Last Friday, they were a half inch long and now they're almost 2 inches long. We think we're going to see a chrysalis or two by Monday.
Next week, we'll wait patiently for the butterflies to emerge; we'll also have to make pollinators for our plants. Each of the students also received a mealworm to take care of and observe. Because of this, don't be surprised if they ask to bring in a carrot, apple, or some other vegetable to feed the mealworms. It's not necessary, but I told them they could bring in an old apple or carrot if they had one, to help feed our critters. Thank you Alex and family for donating an orange.
I'm going to add some new questioning lessons to my social studies unit, to practice asking helpful, thinking questions.
They took their first math test this week and now we're moving back to chapter 2 to follow Achieve the Core with our math series. Next week, they will work with base ten blocks to make 3-digit numbers with a strong focus on place value.
I'll send home spelling list 3 on Monday to practice. They will start another Henry and Mudge story titled "Under the Yellow Moon." Students will practice looking for the author's purpose, and coming up with multiple meaning words. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!
