Happy weekend everyone!
The 4th graders have been working hard and this weekend is well deserved! Enjoy the wonderful weather!
Spelling tests should of come home- wow! This class are super star spellers!! This week we discussed long and short i and the phonics pattern VCCV.
Cause and Effect was the main topic in Reading this week with the story "How Tia Lola Came to Stay" We did several activities relating to this and the kids did a nice job identifying the cause and effect. We also discussed the 4 types of sentences and contractions.
We worked on more writing...topic sentences, supporting sentences and conclusions, but this time about our favorite pet. The kids are getting creative...who would want a dragon as a pet?!! Next week we will continue to work on our opinion writing and paragraph forming skills and write about, "Should kids have smart phones?" We think this could raise some interesting discussions.
Our first chapter in Math is coming to an end. This week was spent on adding and subtracting several digits. The kids will take a test on Tuesday over place value, addition and subtraction up to a million.
We are starting to see some differences between our groups of mealworms, based on their environment. We also have 1 pupa!! Ask your child about it? They are fascinated by them and the changes that are starting to take place.
During Social studies we have been discussing the Industrial Revolution. We have been taking notes to learn general information about this time in history and will begin a partner research project on Monday.
We had the cutest little visitor on Friday!! Baby Katy and Mrs. Heisdorffer came to see us at the end of the day! It was so fun to see them! Mrs. Heisdorffer will be back in two weeks, until then, we will continue to hold down the fort here in 4th grade.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at shorak@sjknights.org or kmorris@sjknights.com.
