New Fire is Coming: A Small Group Night on New Fire
Dear Parents and Family,
Tonight, your son or daughter was inspired to live in the new fire of the Holy Spirit. Their small group time began with a fun game where they had to describe words that are associated with the Holy Spirit while the other small group members guessed what they were saying. The teaching unpacked how the Holy Spirit dwells within us through our baptism and confirmation, how the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit work in our lives, and the call the youth have to be a new fire in the world. After the teaching, the youth played a game where they matched different gifts of the Holy Spirit with situations in their lives that need transformation. The small group time ended with the youth praying the Come, Holy Spirit prayer.
Your child’s challenge this week is to pray the Come, Holy Spirit prayer every morning on the way to school and teach everyone with them how to pray it.
Main Ideas
- Particularly through our baptism and confirmation, we are made temples of the Holy Spirit.
- The fruits of the Holy Spirit are powerful and transform us if we are willing to let Him work in our lives and show us our unique path to holiness.
- The Holy Spirit enables us to go forth as a new fire, boldly proclaiming the great love Jesus has for us so we can transform the world.
Catechism Reference
“The fruit of Baptism, or baptismal grace, is a rich reality that includes forgiveness of original sin and all personal sins, birth into the new life by which man becomes an adoptive son of the Father, a member of Christ and a temple of the Holy Spirit. By this very fact the person baptized is incorporated into the Church, the Body of Christ, and made a sharer in the priesthood of Christ.” (CCC 1279)
Scripture Reference
“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the spirit of sonship. When we cry, 'Abba! Father!' it is the Spirit Himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” (Romans 8:15-16)
Family Reflection Questions
- What happens when we are baptized and confirmed?
- How do the gifts of the Holy Spirit work in our lives?
- Which fruit of the Holy Spirit do you want more of in your life? Why?
