In today's Gospel, Jesus sends out the Twelve on Mission after giving them power over demons and to cure diseases. And, they are to take nothing for the journey. As they travel from village to village they are amazed at the power they have. Just as the Twelve are sent out on Mission, we as followers of Jesus are also sent on Mission. We may not have the kind of power the Twelve had or asked to take nothing for the journey, but if we remember that Jesus always journeys with us we may be amazed at what we can accomplish on our earthly mission. Our Wednesday Worship song this week is the moving song by Donna Marie McGargill, OSM Servant Song. The beginning lyrics cut right to the heart, "What do you want of me, Lord? Where do you want me to serve you?" I don't know about you but when I sing those lyrics I feel a bit uneasy. I think the feeling comes from the fact that I need to surrender to God's will which is easier said than done. Later in the song when we sing, "Jesus, Jesus", there is a soaring that happens in my heart. If I surrender to Jesus as I journey no matter what happens I can accomplish His will. My prayer for you as you are on Mission is to never forget that Jesus is there by your side and that you can accomplish great things with great love.
