What comes to mind when you hear the word "church"? A quick Google search defines a church as “a building used for public Christian worship.” A building... Can you imagine walking into this church on Sunday morning and there were no smiling faces to greet you? No music? No one on the altar to help with mass? No one to sit next to? No one to pray with?
1 Cor 12:27 says “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.” You are the church. We are the church. People are the church.
My name is Leslie Niederriter and I have been a parishioner here at Our Lady of the Gulf for 3.5 years. I was recently selected to serve on the Pastoral Council and head the Stewardship Committee. I am here today to encourage you to get involved in our parish in order to feel more connected to the people of this church.
Becoming involved in one or more of our ministries is an excellent way to grow closer to Christ as you become His hands and feet and embrace being part of the body of Christ. Not sure which one is right for you? Just start - Don't wait until conditions are perfect - they likely never will be! As you become involved by making yourself available, God will be faithful to reveal to you what His plans are for your life. Whether it's joining a group like the Altar Rosary Society, Knights of Columbus, or the Youth Group, attending a small group like our newest Women’s bible study, Walking with Purpose, volunteering with Mary’s Shelter or Christian Service Center or joining one of our active ministries, we want to share life with you!
In church, you will find a card listing all the different ministries available as well as areas of interest. Please fill out the card with your information and place it in the basket in the back of the church. Or click the button in this message to fill out your information online. I or one of our ministry leaders will be in touch with you very soon!
Always remember that you are part of a large Catholic community. There is someone else out there going through a similar situation, struggling, and thriving in ways that you are. Think about what kind of church community this could be if in response to God’s generosity, we ask ourselves each day, “What can I do to bring the love of Christ to others.”
