“Do it Anyway”
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.
The above lines are a few from the famous “Do it Anyway” quote attributed to Saint Teresa of Calcutta. These were written on the wall of Mother Teresa’s children’s home in Calcutta, India and express how she lived her life and encouraged others to do the same.
I chose these verses because they are the ones that remind me of the challenges I have in living a life of Stewardship. I think we all want to see the fruits of our labor, but the above words from Saint Teresa reminds us that we are not in control of the fruits of our labor – it is all God’s plan.
Another way of thinking about how we can share our gifts of time, treasure and talent is to “show up” or “do it anyway”. There are so many distractions and excuses in today’s culture that keep us from “doing it anyway”. I have a million of them, but I have never regretted “doing it anyway” when it comes to helping at Church or being there for family and friends.
My life has changed dramatically by accepting an invitation to “show up” for a new men’s ministry at OLG several years ago. The Holy Spirit really pushed me out of my box, but by “doing it anyway” I have a relationship with Jesus and my Church that I never imagined before.
I wonder what some “Do it anyway” verses for Stewardship from Saint Teresa of Calcutta might look like. Actually – all of the verses from “Do it anyway” could relate to a life of Stewardship. I encourage you to learn more about Saint Teresa of Calcutta and all the Saints and how they lived a life of Stewardship and how it changed the world.
Here are some questions that I have asked myself in the past that have kept me from living a life of Stewardship and how I think Saint Teresa and the Holy Spirit have responded.
I don’t really have any talent to share….God made you unique in this world; you have infinite talents. Show up anyway and your talents will be revealed.
I don’t know how my treasure will be used…. It is not your treasure; it is a gift from God. Trust him and give treasure anyway.
I am busy with work and don’t have time to give to Church or God right now…. What are your priorities? Make time and show up anyway.
I encourage you all to “Show up and Do it Anyway”. Peace.
