This week...
*We had a fire drill on Wednesday. We heard what the fire alarm sounds like (love YouTube!), what our expectations are, and what we do. Then we practiced! The hardest part was listening for our name and saying "Here". The class did an amazing job lining up, being quiet, walking out on the sidewalk. We will have a fire drill every month per IQPPS (Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards).
*We listened to Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. IT is a favorite! And they loved being able to help me read the story by saying the chicka chicka boom boom part of the story! We worked on identifying colors in the pictures, identifying where the title is and who the author and illustrator is. Most can tell me the author is the person who wrote the words. We will continue to work on the setting of a story. That mixes the kids up quite a bit. I had one friend say that the story took place in the book. :) Absolutely it did!
*This week we worked in small groups on counting to 5. We got to use flat marbles to help us count. We got counting to 5 pretty accurately! Some groups got to color an apple sheet after they used it to place the marbles on it and count them. Again, I set the expectations that the marbles stay on the table and our hands in our laps. Next week I will get those papers back out and the marbles and see if they are able to do it more independently. Not everyone had the chance to do that part of the lesson.
Next week...
*We will practice a tornado drill. Again, I will go over what we do, why we do it, and the expectations. Hopefully we will be able to practice with the 3 YO preschoolers. Miss Kim and I want to do this so that they understand what it will feel like with everyone together. And this will be a drill we do once a month, according to the IQPPS standards.
*We will read Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz. This is part of Read it Again!.
*We will start talking about apples and doing projects with them.
*We will do more with counting to 5 and 10.
*We will start working on writing our names.
*We will start learning our letters, their names, and their sounds. We will start with the high frequency letters, like those our names begin with and then the ones we see in text frequently.
Reminders...
*There is a lot of sickness happening at our school right now. We work with your child every day about covering their coughs/sneezes in their elbows or sleeves, we work on blowing noses with kleenex and then either handwashing or using hand sanitizer on hands afterwards. Can you please help us out by doing the same at home? Also if you child doens't feel good please keep them home. Let's slow the spread. If you want your child to wear a face mask please let us know. We can gently remind them to put it on or pull it up but we cannot enforce it. I, MIss Cole, will be wearing a facemask to protect myself, my family, and your children and family.
*THANK YOU to those of you who turned in missing medical paperwork! I appreciate you!
*If I sent you a note home on Monday about missing medical paperwork PLEASE turn it in! Make that phone call to the doctor or Public Health. We will not be in compliance and we may have a citation.
*Picture day is October 12. Information will be going home next week.
