“The Son of Man came to serve and to give his life…” (Mark 10:45)
Jesus could have turned stones into bread and dined sumptuously day in and day out, but oftentimes he chose to fast along and sometimes all he’d eat was some bread and fish. Jesus could have had all the earthly power in the world and wielded it however he chose, but he chose to not have a place to lay his head at night. Jesus could have commanded that he be given all the riches and comforts of life, yet he chose to walk the dusty roads of Palestine getting dirty, sweaty, stinky, and caked in mud. Jesus could have slept in palaces and been waited on hand and foot, but he stayed up all hours of the day and night healing those brought to him, ministering to those in need, feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, welcoming children, and restoring life to the dead instead of getting his own rest and rejuvenation. Jesus is the one we are to follow…how are we doing following his example? Are we serving and giving of our time, talents, and treasures for those around us? Are we seeking the benefit of others and God’s Kingdom or are asking what can be given to us and how we can be benefited? Let us drop the selfishness and be selfless today! Let us seek the good of ALL instead of our good alone! Let us lay down our life for our friends! It’s what Jesus did, my sisters and brothers in Christ, and it’s what we should do too! Amen!
