Today at the 9:30am Mass, newly ordained Deacon Steve Powers will serve Mass and deliver the homily at Saint Rose Church for us. Please join us after Mass for a gathering with light refreshments. All are welcome and encouraged to come and greet Steve and his wife Laura and congratulate them on his call to service as Deacon in the church.

With the recent start to the school year, we want to introduce some additional seating guidelines at Saint Rose to better accommodate our parish.
- Those who wish to social distance are invited to attend Mass in the parish hall. Masks and social distancing will be required in this area.
- During both the 9:30am and 6:00pm Mass, the first few rows of pews will be reserved for catechumens (students in religious education).
- The remaining pews are open to all and masks are not required in this section.

MASS OF REMEMBRANCE
On Saturday, November 6th, at the 9:00am Mass. The parish of St. Rose of Lima will be celebrating a Mass of Remembrance for all who have passed away during the last year. All are invited to unite themselves in prayer by attending one or both Masses.
During the Mass we will place candles next to the Altar in remembrance of our loved ones, and these candles will then be used to light the vigil lamp next to the tabernacle in the parish rectory chapel. If anyone would like to make an offering of a candle in memory of a loved one, please let us know by calling the office or by email to info@agnesandrose.org, and we will arrange it using the appropriate kind of vigil candle. You are welcome to send in a donation for the candle if you wish.

THE ARCHANGELS SERVE GOD AND US
This past Wednesday, we celebrated the feast of the three Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. They are the only angels named in Sacred Scripture and all three have important roles in the history of salvation.
Saint Michael is the "Prince of the Heavenly Host," the leader of all the angels. His name is Hebrew for "Who is like God?" and was the battle cry of the good angels against Lucifer and his followers when they rebelled against God. He is mentioned four times in the Bible, in Daniel 10 and 12, in the letter of Jude, and in Revelation. Michael, whose forces cast down Lucifer and the evil spirits into Hell, is invoked for protection against Satan and all evil. Pope Leo XIII, in 1899, having had a prophetic vision of the evil that would be inflicted upon the Church and the world in the 20th century, instituted a prayer asking for Saint Michael's protection to be said at the end of every Mass.
Christian tradition recognizes four offices of Saint Michael: (i) to fight against Satan (ii) to rescue the souls of the faithful from the power of the enemy, especially at the hour of death. (iii) to be the champion of God's people, (iv) to call away from earth and bring men's souls to judgment.

Saint Gabriel, whose name means "God's strength," is mentioned four times in the Bible. Most significant are Gabriel's two mentions in the New Testament: to announce the birth of John the Baptist to his father Zacharias, and the at Incarnation of the Word in the womb of Mary.
Christian tradition suggests that it is he who appeared to St. Joseph and to the shepherds, and also that it was he who "strengthened" Jesus during his agony in the garden of Gethsemane.

Raphael is also identified with the angel in John 5:1-4 who descended upon the pond and bestowed healing pow- ers upon it so that the first to enter it after it moved would be healed of whatever infirmity he was suffering.

The archangels serve God, but by God's command, they also serve us. We also know that there was once an angel called Lucifer who was very powerful, but one day rebelled against God. He stopped serving God and became known as Satan. We know that not all the angels decided to stay faithful and serve God, but we know that many did and still do serve God faithfully. May we pray for the intercession of the archangels and our guardian angel that we may always faithfully serve God as they do and so bring ourselves closer to God in our life!
