Good afternoon!
I hope everyone has had a wonderful week so far.
Reminder: Tuesday is School Picture Day! Order forms went home this week with the students. If you didn't receive yours or have misplaced it, please let me know, and I will get you another one. You can also order your pictures online at
mylifetouch.com (ID: EVTKV64KM).
The 4th Graders have been very busy this week!
Math: They learned many different ways to multiply 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. They also now know the traditional algorithm to multiply (the way many of you might have learned how to multiply).
Reading: Our focus was on comparing and contrasting. Students read our main story "Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude" (a modern fairy tale) as well as leveled books. The class really enjoyed the main story this week. In each of the stories, they practiced comparing and contrasting the main characters.
Spelling: Our focus this week was on the different sounds "u" can make. The students did very well on today's spelling test. Your child should have brought home his/her test.
Grammar: Our focus this week was on working with verbs. The students did very well with action verbs.
Science: It was Fire Safety Week. Our class made fire safety posters for "Learning the Sounds of Fire Safety". The firefighters came to school on Tuesday. The students cycled through different stations to learn about fire safety. Congratulations to Lovella (1st Place), Scarlett (2nd Place), and Preston (3rd Place) for winning the poster contest for 4th Grade at St. James. Good luck to Lovella! Her poster goes on to another contest.
Social Studies: The students began their individual research projects. Each student has selected an Industrial Revolution inventor to research. They will be using their research for two different projects:
1. Our Industrial Revolution Inventor Graveyard: making tombstones for their inventors
2. Our Class Book: writing and illustrating pages to go in our class book
I hope you all enjoy the Homecoming Parade and game later today! I included some pictures from when the firefighters were here on Tuesday.
God bless!
