St. Mark's Choir
Now that the Fall choir season has begun, we would like to extend an invitation to any and all parishioners to join us for an open rehearsal this Sunday, October 17th at 11:30am (directly following the 10am service). If you have previously sung in the choir, thought about joining, or are just curious to know what a choir rehearsal is like, please come join us! Please note that we are requiring full vaccination and masks to begin the choir season this Fall. We hope to see many of you there!
The St. Mark's Choir sings at the 10am service on a weekly basis from late September to early June. Our weekly commitment is 9am-12:30pm every Sunday, which includes a warm up before the 10am service, and a rehearsal following the service. No mid-week rehearsal, what a deal!
And here's a view from the choir chairs - this is Martha Heiner. Did you know that Michael McCormick has returned to graduate school this Fall? He has chosen to continue his studies in choral conducting. Just when we thought he couldn't get any better, he is all excited by his new studies, and is bringing it to the choir. Come and see the limitless skills of Mike.
St. Marks Sunday School
Our program will kick off on Sunday October 24 at the 5pm service. We will be meeting twice a month at the Sunday evening service that also has dinner.
The program we are using this year has a focus on exploring values and ethics using short clips from Disney and Pixar as well as fun craft projects. At the first meeting we will watch a Pixar clip about a bully named JJ stealing toys from other children. Our craft project will be to kick off our Kindness Rock Project.
For those children attending in person we have set up Bryans room as a Covid safe space, the room is off limits for all other uses. We will be offering our program online for those interested following the in person meeting. If you would like more information about the program please reach out to John Lyga.
We will continue meeting on Sundays after the 5 pm service to work on building our rockets with a launch planned for late October at Ross Farm. Videos are posted following the session to allow those who could not attend to build. For help with building your rocket or just general information, contact John Lyga.
Food Trucks!

Coffee Hours
Please only sign up for a second slot on a day if you have agreed with someone to do coffee hour together. Otherwise, you will both not know who the other person signed up is.
Vestry Nominations
The Nominating Committee is continuing its work of identifying members of the St. Mark’s congregation to stand as candidates to serve as Wardens and Vestry members starting in January 2022, and as Delegates to the Diocesan Convention in March 2022.
In addition to the Junior Warden position, there are three Vestry positions to be filled; those responsible for leading our Membership programs, coordinating our Christian Education programs and managing the maintenance of our Grounds. And there are three positions for delegates to the Convention.
The Nominating Committee plans to publish its slate of candidates in the November issue of the Lion’s Roar, and the parish will vote on this slate at the Annual Parish Meeting in January.
Nominating Committee members are Laura Mooney, Gerry McDonnell and Jim Lunny. If you have any questions about the nomination process, or if you would like to propose any parish member, including yourself, for consideration, please contact any member of the committee.
Curbing Hunger Donation
Donate All Year
Donations of non-perishable food are accepted throughout the year and delivered to the Food Bank Network of Somerset County for distribution to county families in-need. Residents can place non-perishable items in a plastic bag and mark it “food” with a permanent marker and leave the bag at the curb with their recyclables for collection on their regularly scheduled pickup days and/or donate canned goods at Somerset County’s First Saturday Drop-Off events.
Monetary Donations: Checks can be made payable to Curbing Hunger, Inc. and mailed to 140 South Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
And, of course, you can always bring your food donations to the office or link.
Donations to Altar Guild
Fresh flowers are always a welcome site on Sunday mornings. For many years we have kept the price of one vase at $30 and two at $60. Given the rising costs of, well everything, we will be increasing the flower fee - $35 for one, $70 for both. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Please contact the office if you would like to dedicate altar flowers in memory or celebration of a loved one.
