This week...
*We began our exploration of apples. We learned what the parts of an apple are and we got to taste test a yellow, green, and red apple. We then charted our favorite apples. Next week we are going to look at the life cycle of an apple tree.
*For Read It Again we read the story Apples by Gail Gibbons.
*We talked about rhyming words with -at.
*During centers we got to finger paint! It was so fun to watch the kids! Some were all in with the painting and you could tell by their smiles that they were loving it! And then I had a couple that dipped their finger into the paint and made finger prints. They were not so happy about this project. Next week we are going to trace their handprint on the paper and cut them out to use as fall leaves for our door. We will also be making apples with torn paper to tape to the door as well.
*After reading Ten Apples Up On Top by Dr. Seuss we made our own class book. Each student wrote their name on their paper and chose how many apples they wanted to have on their heads. They had a lot of fun with this as well.
Ideas to help your child at home...
*Count at home with your child. We are working on 1-10. Have them point to each object as they count.
Ask them about the numerals 1-5. Can they find that many objects?
*Read to your child. Ask them who the characters are. Where the story takes place. If the story is a predictable story have them finish the sentence for you.
*Help your child learn to put their coat on by themselves.
*Practice with your child zipping their bag.
Coming up...
*Miss Jo will be coming on Thursday to read to us. We had so much fun listening to her story and playing with scarves that I know we will have a great time!
*Our Halloween Party is October 28. Students can bring costumes that morning and we will them on in the afternoon after our games to participate in the school parade. After the parade we will have our treat.
I have Kelsey V bringing drinks
Jodi R bringing treats
Kelsey S bringing paper products (thanks for sending them in early!)
Amy V helping with the afternoon
We are still keeping numbers low on who is coming into the building we will not have extra adults in the room helping or observing the party. Miss Flor and I will be taking lots of pictures and uploading them for you all to see.
Please bring...
*The weather is getting colder. Please pack a jacket/coat, hat and gloves in your child's bag. If the temperature is under 55 we will wear coats outside. If it is too cold and children do not have coats we will not go outside. And we NEED to go outside!
*Books are due on Monday, October 18 in order for them to check out new ones. A note went home with those who didn't return them this week.
