Good afternoon!
I hope everyone has had a wonderful week so far. The weather looks beautiful for the weekend!
Reminder: There will now be after-school tutoring offered at St. James. A note went home about that this week. If you didn't receive it, please let me know, and I will send another one home. Sign-ups are due by October 25th.
Notes:
1. Please send jackets or sweatshirts each day. Recesses are getting much chillier. Thank you!
2. Friday is a FULL day for our students but not for the public school. Please see our school calendar for our Friday schedules for the year.
Math: The students have been working with strategies for multiplying - they now know how to multiply up to 4-digits by 1-digit. They also worked on problem solving using those strategies this week. Students completed a multiplication escape room to practice. The students will take their Ch. 2 test next Tuesday.
Reading: We've started our first novel unit on Number the Stars! Mrs. Clarahan and I both love the book, and we are co-teaching it to the class. She taught this novel unit for several years while in the classroom and wanted to take part in ours. She will be visiting our class each day during this reading unit to share her expertise. The class is loving the book so far. We have focused on a variety of reading and language skills this week with the text. Specifically we focused on story elements: characters, setting, and plot.
Spelling: Our focus this week was on the short /oo/ and long /oo/ sounds. The students did very well on today's spelling test.
Grammar: Our focus this week was on working on correctly using verb tenses.
Social Studies: The students worked on their Industrial Revolution inventor tombstones complete with epitaphs. We will be making the final tombstones and displaying them next week.
Science: Next week we will begin our first STEM kit in 4th Grade! We will be using Snap Circuits to learn about electricity and power.
Have a blessed weekend!
