This is the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
In Sunday's Gospel James and John ask Jesus to reward them with a share in his glory. He challenges their understanding of authority and the very purpose of the Christian life. "For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve."
Service sometimes requires that we take the initiative and reach out to our loved ones, neighbors, co-workers, even strangers. Sometimes service is simply being present to the other with a spirit of compassion and acceptance. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to help us recognize the many opportunities each day to serve so that we can truly be men and women for others. That's how we can help build the kingdom of God here and now.

Praise & Graze is BACK!
Praise and Graze events are held on Wednesday evenings for a series of 4-weeks. We gather at 6:00 PM in the parish hall for a short session of prayer and a hymn— “praise” followed by dinner— “graze” at 6:15 PM.
At 6:45 PM, participants are welcome to attend the faith formation session which, Is speaker Maureen McGrath.
Meals are catered and guests can stay for as much (or as little) of the evening as they’d like. Children are welcome to attend, and childcare is provided during the “faith formation” portion of the evening. Please check the calendar for additional details on each evening’s specific schedule/event(s).
Registration is required for dinner. Donations can be made online or at the door. See the bulletin for details
Beginning in October, we offer an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of the Church and prepare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. You are welcome to participate in the RCIA process with your questions, insights, and faith. All Souls day is November 2. As in recent years we will have a special service honoring those who have died in the past year. Everyone is invited, especially those who have lost a friend or family member. Each special “soul” will be remembered by lighting a candle in remembrance.
The service will begin with the Rosary at 6:45 with the candle service at 7 pm. We want to include everyone; if you have someone that you would like to be honored, please reply to this email or to Katrina at kdegraeve@qhrwea.org.
A bit of humor……
Fred travels nearly every week for his job in corporate sales. He’s a bit of a wise guy and fancies himself a ladies’ man. On a recent trip Fred was seated next to an attractive woman. Ever the charmer, he asked, “Does the airline charge you extra for sitting next to good-looking men?” “Yes,” she said, “but I wasn’t willing to pay.”
