What do the four candles signify in the Advent wreath?
The four candles represent the four weeks of Advent. The progressive lighting of the candles symbolizes the expectation and hope surrounding our Lord’s first coming into the world and the anticipation of His second coming to judge the living and the dead.
The first candle symbolizes our hope which comes from God’s promises.
The second candle reminds us to prepare for the Lord.
The third candle represents the joy that Jesus brings to us.
The fourth candle represents the love of the angels who announced the good news.
Today's challenge: Offer up a prayer for someone who needs more hope in their life when lighting your Advent candle.
