We’ve been studying the Unlikely Heroes in the Book of Judges, the people God chose to use to bring deliverance. We have seen that the way God chooses to save is not always the way we would choose. In this final sermon in the series, Pastor Tara VinCross draws our attention to the tension between the faithfulness of Yahweh and the freedom of Yahweh. God is always good and holds to the covenant. Yes, God is faithful! Yet, God is free to act in the world and that means God does not always show up as we expect. What does God truly intend for the people? How did God want them to understand who God is? This is what we explore.

Help Raise Money for Our Kitchen with Your Coins!
Watch your coins spin and help raise money for our kitchen remodel! Our coin funnel made its debut at our Ministry Fair last Sabbath! You can find it at the entry to the foyer by the pond for the next several weeks. Please be sure to put your coins in the funnel and not in the pond. Coins are hard on the fish. Eventually, the funnel will be moved into the Ministry Complex for our kids right before Thanksgiving.
Toiletry Bags Help Those In Need
“The only way we can serve our community is with people like you who help us with these precious donations.” Those were Jobi Wood’s words after receiving the 206 toiletry bags our church packed during camp meeting weekend! Wood is the community manager for the Family Assistance Program. Pastor Jessie López Abdul-Karim, our Young Adult and Missions Pastor, delivered the bags this week. The bags will benefit all six of their programs: Our House, Hope House, The Open Door, FAM Spot, Open Arms, and the Next Step. We want to thank everyone who packed bags and made this project possible! #TogetherWeServe
Azure Hills Pastors Hosted for Appreciation Dinner
A beautiful late fall afternoon welcomed our pastors and their families on Sabbath, October 23, as they were hosted by our Church Board and Financial Advisory members. A warm soup and salad meal was provided for all to enjoy in an enchanting outdoor space on the Azure Hills campus. Vice-chair Liesl Acquistapace and board member Deb Chong planned the evening and prepared the beautiful flowers and decorations, which made for a special evening to honor our pastors.
To express appreciation for our pastors, a special tribute was written by Retta Michaelis (Link below) followed by individual expressions of gratitude given on an individual basis. Board members Keturah Reed, Sam Butarbutar, Shirley Tan, Claudia Benggon, Franz Sanchez, and Jenn Maxwell participated and Co-Head Elder, Ernie Medina, offered a closing prayer of blessing and thanksgiving.
A time for fellowship and sharing at the luscious dessert table ended the evening! Speaking on behalf of the entire pastoral staff, Senior Pastor Tara VinCross simply said, “What an incredible evening!! That was truly so special. Thank you!!”

We are sad to announce the passing of Rachell Heramil, mother of Kash Heramil, one of our members. We will let you know the details for her memorial service as soon as we receive it from the family.
We are also sad to announce the passing of the mother of Joy Jhanapin and mother-in-law of Pastor Gregory Jhanapin.
The memorial service for William “Ernie” McGee will be on Thursday, November 18, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
Happy Birthday to our Community and Discipleship Pastor, Mike Leno! He celebrated his birthday this past Wednesday!
Lynette Rivinius put on her hiking shoes for her 70th birthday! She climbed Mount San Jacinto with her youngest son, Kiff, and Jan and Rhetta Michaelis! Reflecting on the hike, Lynette said, "I had decided that I wanted to do something significant to celebrate my 70th birthday, which was this past Monday, Oct. 25. I dearly love being out in nature, and so a hike seemed most fitting. We hiked 6 miles from the top of the Palm Springs Tram to get to the summit of San Jacinto. The weather was perfect, and I couldn't have asked for better hiking partners. The view from the summit was spectacular—360 degrees."
