A short week but a busy week! As you saw earlier this week we started timed math tests. I have explained to the kids that the better they know their basic addition and subtraction facts the easier multiplication and division will be. So we are continuing to work on those as well as keep pushing the multiplication.
In reading and spelling we worked on homophones and proper nouns being geographical places, names for people or animals and historical places. We also read the story The Science Fair. Everyone did a great job on their reading test today!
Back to lots of fun with Science. Our new kit is Water and Climate. We have been experimenting with water on different surfaces and slopes, the kids are enjoying it. (I would maybe think twice if they ask for waxed paper)!
Every Thursday in December we will be celebrating the holidays with a special dress day. Next Thursday, December 7 is "Hats off for the Holidays"! Hats of any kind may be worn to school that day (preferably Christmas type hats, but any will do)!
December also brings the Giving Tree. Instead of doing a classroom gift exchange, I am asking each child to bring $2 to go toward purchasing gifts for someone in need. I will gather gift tags from our church giving tree and purchase items from our class. Please have all money to me by Dec. 13 so I can make purchases and get gifts to the church in time to be delivered.
I want to send out a huge THANK YOU to all of you. I know Becky set up the "Give Cancer the Boot" drive here at school. The boot in our classroom is almost full! It warms my heart to see all that has been given to a little boy who none of you know! I cannot wait to hand this money/gift cards...to Brody and his family this Christmas. He is truly the strongest little man I know. After a lengthy healing period after his amputation, he is back to chemo. He will continue 3 weekends on and 2 weekends off for the next 6-8 months. Thank you all again for the giving and the prayers, it is truly appreciated.
Everyone have a great weekend!
