THIS WEEK:
Thanksgiving time was busy for us in the classroom. We worked on our cutting skills by cutting out the turkey & feet for the turkey hats! These took a lot of hard work & determination but they turned out so adorable.
Thanksgiving week, we were able to be a great audience for the 2nd graders & Kindergarteners as they gave their Thanksgiving plays! The kiddos were so excited to see their 2nd grade reading buddies as they debuted in their acting career! This did spark a discussion about the preschoolers doing a play. I looked for a quick, easy play on pinterest, then suggested to the kiddo that we write our own! The response was, “Yeah, or we could do parts from the Nutcracker!” Oh children…you make me chuckle! The NUTCRACKER! (Just to let you know, we will not be doing the Nutcracker! We are working on an alternate plan!) Be watching for more information.
THANK YOU to everyone that came in for conferences! I appreciate your time! We had a great turn out!
THEMED THURSDAYS: During the month of November we will be having THEME THURSDAY’S school wide!! This is a fun way to celebrate together! Here are the themes:
Thursday, December 7: Hats Off for the Holidays—Wear holiday head wear…If students don’t have anything holiday they can wear other “appropriate" hats.
Thursday, December 14: Deck the Halls—Dress up like your favorite Christmas decoration OR song!
Thursday, December21: Long Winters’ Nap—Wear jammies!
COLD WEATHER: REMEMBER: The weather is getting colder! We go outside everyday, at least 1 time a day! The only way we do not go outside is if the wind chill is below 15 degrees! SO, please send warm coats, hats & gloves for your children to wear! Make sure they are labeled with names somehow! Thank you!
ABSENCES: If your child is going to be late or absent for any reason, PLEASE let the office know! The number to the office is 319-653-3631. If no one answers, please leave a message! We do worry about your children when they are not at school!
WATER BOTTLES: PLEASE, PLEASE send your child’s water bottle back with them on Monday!
SNACK: Jackson Courtney was the Snack-A-Nator the week of November 13. Hernan Atilano was the Snack-A-Nator the week of November 20. Thank you to both families! The kids enjoyed all of the snacks, especially the mangos! This week, our Snack-A-Nator has been Fiby Hernandez! The Uncrustables were HIT! We really appreciate Fiby’s family for doing snack this week! They have been busy welcoming a new baby into their home! THANK YOU for providing snack!
Next week’s Snack-A-Nator will be Evie Courtney!
SUPERHERO OF THE WEEK: Nathan Showers was the Superhero of the Week for the week of November 13. Thank you Nathan for sharing your love of football with us! Nathan is a real Iowa Football fan & will tell you all about it, just ask him!
This week, our Superhero is Pablo Canales! He caught everyone’s attention with his new blue bike that his Mom brought in for us to see! He showed us how he could ride it & told us that he wears a helmet! So cool!
Next week, the Superhero of the Week will be Evie Courtney!
GIVE CANCER THE BOOT: You may have noticed the addition of a cowboy boot to our classroom! We are trying to help a fellow St. James family member out whose family has been affected by cancer. Mrs. Sheetz’s nephew, Brody who is 12, has been battling cancer. He has lost his leg to this dreaded disease. We are trying to fill our boot with change! If the boot gets filled then the kids get to throw a pie in my face! Not really my cup of tea but if it will help a little boy who needs help, I’ll be in! So, send in your change & let’s fill the boot!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU: Happy birthday Mr. Nathan Showers! He turned 5 on November 16th! We enjoyed some delicious cupcakes in Nathan’s honor!
Happy ½ birthdays to Evie Courtney & Jack Courtney! They turned 4 ½ on December 1! Who doesn’t LOVE double stuffed Oreo’s for a birthday treat! THANK YOU to Nathan & Evie & Jack for having a birthday & sharing them with us!
ITEMS NEEDED: We would like to practice wrapping gifts for our tree! It’s a great fine motor & direction following activity. If you happen to have any small boxes you aren’t using or left over wrapping paper that you would be willing to donate to us, that would be great! Just bring your leftovers on in to us!
