It was also All Saints' Sunday this week. We remembered the saints that passed in the last year and the many saints in our church family's cloud of witnesses. The time of remembrance and communion are included in the youtube video.

Sermon Series
Have you ever asked yourself, WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) and couldn't come to an answer?
The Bible doesn't give us specifics for what Jesus would do in every situation, but through the teachings we do have from Jesus we are given some basic values that we should hold onto as Christians. Those are the values that should guide our thoughts and actions. When we choose those values over those our society wants us to have we can build healthier and happier community around us.
We will be spending time with a collection of Jesus’ teachings from the middle of the Gospel of Mark about what it means to live out God's Kingdom. All of these stories tell of someone(s) asking Jesus a question or making an assumption and Jesus correcting their mindset to what they should be valuing. These stories give us a glimpse into the way that God’s Kingdom values flip our dominant cultural values upside down.
We will spend 6 weeks from October 3 through November 7 walking through these teachings from Jesus and connecting each one to a Kingdom value versus dominant culture value.

If you have some free time before or during the series, I invite you to read Mark 10-12 to hear the teachings all together. If you have even more time, you could even read all of Mark, it is the shortest of the Gospels!
New Worship Service! Wednesday Evening Worship!
A lot of people spend weekends away from home during summer months, so it is the perfect time to add a mid-week worship option.
Every Wednesday Evening we are coming together for a more casual worship service in the Hopkins UMC sanctuary at 6:30pm. The service will focus around the same scripture, sermon, and prayers as Sunday morning, but will bring in some different music options. We also expect that the service will be a bit shorter than Sunday morning. For those who are unable to worship in person, we will share this service live over Zoom.
Childcare will be provided in the basement of the church.
This is a great option to invite people, outside of our church family, to try out! Let’s spread the word!
We will bring a little Thanksgiving into worship the Sunday before the holiday this year, November 21. We will have a special craft for kids to make during worship and will focus worship around thanksgiving in the church.
Advent is the time leading up to Christmas during which the church remembers and prepares for the coming of Christ. If you want to learn a bit more, check out this article from discipleship ministries.
This year, our church will be following the theme "Close to Home" for our journey through Advent. When something hits close to home, it affects us deeply. During
the Advent and Christmas season, we journey through scriptures and rituals that are tender, heavy with emotion, and vulnerable. We carry the memories and truths of this season close to our hearts. Close to Home acknowledges the “already but not yet” tension of our faith: Emmanuel is with us, and yet, God’s promised day—our everlasting home—is not fully realized. It names our deep longing for God to come close to us.

The church will be giving everyone a daily devotional that brings the theme home to us through a variety of scripture, prayer, poetry, art, and journaling prompts. Every family will also receive a family activities Advent calendar.
We will be offering a Blue Christmas service early in the season, as well as Christmas Eve live nativity and a Lessons and Carols service on Dec 26.

Mentoring at Hopkins Elementary
The mentor planning meeting was held on Tuesday, October 12th. If you missed it and want to be a mentor, please talk to Alys. In the past there have always been more potential mentees than there have been mentors. You could make a real difference in someone’s life!
Senior Meals
Seniors meals is back! Every Mon., Wed., & Fri. at noon in HUM Hall.. Suggested donation: $2.50. Join together with our community for food and fellowship. How nice it is to be together in the hall again!
Please come and invite your friends. If they don't get more people coming, they will shut down this site.

Updated COVID Policies
(As of 10/18/21)
We have shifted our policies a bit to allow for more personal choice and comfort. Thank you for continuing to do what you can to keep each other safe!
1) While inside the church building, we are recommending all people to wear masks, but not requiring
-- Wearing masks allows to us protect the most vulnerable among us, including unvaccinated children.
2) Please socially distance from other people/groups while sitting in the pews by sitting every other pew.
-- According to the CDC, a true exposure to someone who has COVID is being within 6ft of them for a total of 15 min. Socially distancing limits the chance of exposure.
3) We will be running air purifiers in the nursery and Sunday School spaces in the basement.
4) We will continue to have bulletins, offering, and anything else for you to pick up at the welcome table.
Church Communication Update
It has become apparent that we have too many ways to communicate church news. We’re finding that when information goes out, it is easy for some platforms to be forgotten or ignored. That is causing people to miss announcements about events and/or changes in the church schedule.
With that in mind, we are making some changes and we will have a survey at worship for the month of September to make sure everyone is connected. If you don't make it in for worship, email Pastor Kelsey or Mitzi to receive the survey digitally.

Facebook group chat update
We will no longer use the “Women of the UMC” chat for any official church business. It will still exist, but the church office will not be using it. We will be relying on Flocknote for church announcements and the new options below for the rest.
Covenant Chats
For those that are looking for ways to be more closely connected to our church family, Pastor Kelsey is facilitating creating small facebook group chats (3-5 people) that will function like an online “small group.” These covenant groups will be a space to better build community and deepen relationships, as all are able to fully share prayer requests and support one another in whatever is going on in life.
New email groups for UMW and Ad Board!
We are creating email groups for UMW and Ad Board communications. These email groups will be a space for church leaders to easily share information and a space for whole group discussion and voting on ministry opportunities.
