From Fr. George
Prayerful greetings from St. Bonaventure Parish.
We have gradually come to the last weekend of this Liturgical Year, celebrating the Solemnity of Christ the King. This feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI as a feast of the universal Church in 1925, when the dark clouds of totalitarianism were rolling over the world. In response to the world's increasing secularization, nationalism & atheism surged forth & threatened the Christian world, the Church decided to fight against these ideologies, by emphasizing the sovereignty of Jesus Christ & his final triumph over evil & injustice.
This weekend’s scripture readings make clear to us that the kingdom of Jesus is not a kingdom of this world but a kingdom in the world to come, life after death, life with Jesus, forever. In the Gospel Jesus declared, “My kingdom does not belong to this world. So, this feast points our attention not only to the identity of Christ as the king of the universe but also to the goal of the Christian life, to live & reign with Him forever. It is also a summary of our lives as Christians.
As we celebrate this beautiful solemnity of Christ the King, let Jesus Christ be our king. We need to allow him to set us free from selfishness, so that we can follow him & help him to build his kingdom of love, a kingdom of holiness, peace & grace, a kingdom of justice, love & peace.
So, let's ask for the grace today to really make Jesus the king of our lives & let us try to serve Him in every person we meet. We need to allow Jesus Christ to rule in our hearts & souls as we serve others for the love of him. Let us seek to build his kingdom of love in the name of the Father & of the Son & of the Holy Spirit.
God bless you all.
