The Month of the Dead
As the leaves fall from the deciduous trees in the northern hemisphere of the world during the fall months, the Church universal nears the end of the liturgical year and uses this as an opportunity to reflect on the end of time and to pray for the dead. The Church devotes the whole month of November to praying for the poor souls in purgatory.
The theology of purgatory may seem complex, but it is really very simple. Saints liken it to a purifying fire. It is an opportunity for purification in anticipation for the beatific vision. God purifies the soul of inordinate attachments and frees one of any punishment due to sin. It may be likened to the pain one experiences from turning on the lights in the morning. It takes some adjusting to the brightness of God’s love.
Building on the connection with the dead that we have through the communion of saints, we nobly pray for those in purgatory. The most efficacious prayer is the holy sacrifice of the Mass. For this reason, we offer many Masses for the dead. During the month of November, anyone who goes to a cemetery and prays for the dead receives a plenary indulgence. I eagerly encourage all to pray for those who have died and the family and friends who mourn their passing.

Charitable contributions to the church must be postmarked by Friday, December 31 in order to be processed as a 2021 donation. Remember, the parish office is closed the last week of December. If you wish to drop off your contribution, please do so by Thursday, December 23 between 8a and 4p..

Katie grew up in Zionsville and received all her sacraments at St. Alphonsus Liguori Parish. Prior to being a Middle School Mentor, she served as a Confirmation Mentor and a 3rd grade catechist.
Katie is a pulmonary and critical care physician scientist at IU and Eskenazi Hospitals, and conducts lung cancer research at the Indianapolis VA Hospitals. Her husband Dave is an active member of the Knights of Columbus, and together, they have two children - Vivian and Elijah.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is currently seeking a candidate to fill the position of Director of Operations (DOO). The DOO supports the pastor with the stewardship of the human, financial, informational, and physical resources of the parish and serves as the professional administrator and strategic leader of the parish.
Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Business (preferably accounting) and a minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or business management; possess advanced proficiency in computer use in general and Microsoft Excel specifically; be very organized and confidential; and possess strong interpersonal skills. Pay is commensurate with experience, and benefits are included.

Patrick is a best-selling author and host of the Patrick Madrid Show on Relevant Radio, heard daily on 190 stations across the country. He has authored or edited 26 books on Catholic themes including, Why Be Catholic?
Patrick will enlighten our hearts and minds to the truths of the Catholic Faith and help us to explain the Catholic Faith and answer questions and objections in a charitable and respectful way.
On Wednesday evening, Mass is available at 6p and a reception will follow the presentation. Books will be available on both nights.
