“I am coming soon.” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. (Revelation 22:20-21)
Advent is the season of vigilance or waiting. During these four weeks before Christmas we put ourselves in the same “spiritual space” of the Israelites from the Old Testament who waited for many centuries for the coming of the messiah. Following in that tradition, we also are a people who wait for the day when our Lord will return and bring our salvation to its completion…for the scriptures end not so much on a note of triumph as with a longing for this second coming. Advent is a reminder that we are still waiting. Many great men and women of faith such as Paul, Augustine, Therese of Avila, Thomas Aquinas, Francis of Assisi, Catherine of Siena, etc. have lived as Advent people awaiting the day. Their lives give witness as to how to live and their writings give us guidance and hope as we wait. During this season, let us join these great men and women of faith, turning to the Lord praying, “I am waiting. Come Lord, Jesus.”
Thanks to all who attended the Pastor’s Appreciation Party last Sunday. It was truly an enjoyable experience.
