33rd Holy Cross Giving Tree Season
Giving Tree season is here once again
Generosity is needed, I mean like times 10!
Safe methods required. “Still?”, you say.
Covid-19, Please go away.
We want to help! We want to show
God’s love that surrounds us to all that we know.
Gift cards are still safe and they give a ton.
So when giving’s the goal, they get the job done
Read on below, it’s the very same plan.
We describe all the charities the best that we can.
God’s love in our hearts makes it easy to give.
So all of God’s children may happily live.
Your thanks once again, for we know what you do
You give from your heart the entire year through!
Again this year, instead of a physical Giving Tree,
we will have a virtual one,
providing a variety of gift cards for the following charities.
The 2021 Holy Cross Giving Tree Program started on
November 16 and ends on December 5.
Catholic Charities Family Center
This center provides services for families in the Montgomery County community. We’ve been asked to provide gifts for 40 children this holiday season. Our goal is to give two $25 Target gift cards to each child; one for a toy and one for clothing.
Betty Ann Krahnke Shelter (BAKS)
The School of Religion will be supporting the Giving Tree Program
by collecting donations for BAKS
The Betty Ann Krahnke Center is a domestic violence shelter for women and their children in Montgomery County. We’ve been asked to provide gifts for 20 women and 40 children. Our goal is to give one $25 Target card to each mom and one $25 Target gift card to each child.
Linkages to Learning
Linkages to Learning is a community school partnership that assists students and their families by providing or connecting them to services and resources. We’ve been asked to provide gifts for 40 children. Our goal is to give two $25 Target gift cards to each child; one for a toy and one for clothing.
Holy Cross Social Concern Families
The Social Concerns Committee provides assistance to families and individuals in Holy Cross parish and local surrounding communities. We are requesting 50 gift cards from Giant ($25) and 50 gift cards from Target ($25) to distribute to these families and individuals.
Dorothy Day Place
Under the auspices of Catholic Charities, Dorothy Day Place in North Bethesda is a single adult transitional shelter that provides a crucial bridge between homelessness and permanent housing through case management and ongoing support. We‘ve been asked to provide one $25 Target gift card for each of the residents. (20 women and 20 men)
So Others Might Eat (SOME)
As in years past, Holy Cross School will be supporting
the Giving Tree Program by collecting donations for SOME
SOME is an interfaith, community-based organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital. They meet the immediate daily needs of the people they serve with food, clothing, and healthcare. Holy Cross School would like to provide 50 gift cards from Amazon ($25) and 50 gift cards from Target ($25).
Procedure for Giving to the Above Agencies
- When
- Between November 16 and December 5
- What
- Write a check for $25, $50, $75 or more!
- Write checks to Holy Cross Church - Memo line “Giving Tree”.
- Donations will be used to purchase gift cards.
- Buy a $25 gift card(s) from Target, Amazon, or Giant.
- Write a check for $25, $50, $75 or more!
- How
- Mail your check or gift card.

- Put your check or gift card in the slot of the Rectory door.
- Drop your check or gift card in the Offertory Basket at Mass.
- Mail your check or gift card.

Giving Tree Online using Amazon Gift Registry
ARC of Montgomery County
The Arc Montgomery County supports children, youth, adults and families. We have been asked to provide gifts for 35 people. As many of these people can’t shop for themselves, Arc has put together a Wish List on Amazon that will send a gift directly to the center where it will be distributed by the wonderful people at Arc.

L’Arche of Greater Washington, DC
L’Arche is unique among residential service providers in that core members (adults with intellectual disabilities) and assistants (people without intellectual disabilities who support core members) choose to live life together like a family. Members come together around the dinner table, for house meetings, and for weekly celebrations. Core members lead the community through their creativity and compassion. We’ve been asked to provide gifts for their four community houses to be shared by all members.
