Dear Parishioners,
Supreme Court and Roe v. Wade
During this 10 AM hour, the Supreme Court is hearing arguments in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case. Their decision is expected on about June 22nd, the feast of Sts. John Fisher and Thomas More.
For an interesting analysis, I recommend an interview with one of my favorite lawyers, law professor Helen Alvaré. You can read the article
here or listen to the interview here. My hopes for the overturning of Roe v. Wade were sparked by a parishioner at St. Paul's in Princeton, the Princeton University law professor Robert George. You can read his prediction here. Whatever happens, it's going to be difficult. If Roe v. Wade is overturned, it's likely that states will then pass laws outlawing or legalizing abortion. We're already seeing the return to abortion tourism. New York City was the capital for abortion tourism back in the late 1800s. When it comes to abortion, legal cases and laws are not enough. We need to continue to love our neighbor and do even more. The pro-life pregnancy resource centers in our country have been doing wonderful work to help women in need. And that has been changing hearts and minds.
Please pray for our Supreme Court justices that they will make a good decision. Pray for and support our pregnancy resource centers that they may grow in their support of women. Pray for our country, that all of us would become truly pro-life.
God love you,
Fr. Jim
