At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. (From Matthew 9:35-10:8)
How do today’s political leaders fare when it comes to having pity and compassion for the crowds? Is your councilman, representative, Senator, Mayor, Governor, President, or presidential hopeful showing kindness, compassion, mercy, and pity for those whom they were elected to serve? How about the leaders of your industry that you look up to? How about the leaders of whatever online movement you follow? How about the leaders of your church? Are all of these individuals in it for themselves or for you? How about you—are you only working and aiming for your own popularity and power or to serve those who come to you? Jesus wasn’t looking for his own power, prestige, or notoriety, but he came to serve and to save us lost sheep! Maybe we need to reassess who is the focus of our lives and who should be our heroes…should it be a politician, an athlete, an anonymous online leader…or Jesus? To quote Joshua of the Old Testament: “As for me and my household…we will choose the LORD!” Amen
