Hopefully you have marked the Christmas Concert on your calendars, because it is this coming week already!!
Students need to be at The Washington Community Center before the concert begins at 6:30 on Wednesday evening to get ready. Teachers will be ready to greet them around 6:15.
Literacy:
In First Grade we continue to read words with blends and short vowel sounds. We are now able to read words with blends in the beginning of a word and the end in ONE word! Some examples are: frank, blast, blank, climb, trust and twist.
Writing is going well! Students are given some ideas for them to write about, but they are formulating their own ides in complete sentences. Very impressive!
Math:
We are strengthening our fact fluency skills and continuing to work on number sense. This week we took our subtraction test and the kids did AMAZING!! Next week we have many fun games to play. It should be an exciting few weeks.
Art:
In Art we are creating and crafting to make some special gifts for YOU! Mumms the word until December 22nd.
Socially/Emotionally:
We have not implemented any new skills or strategies.
We continue to work on:
1. Being a problem solver and not a problem maker.
2. Discussing how our actions have positive and negative consequences.
3. Learning that we are in control of our own behavior. Our parents and teachers can not "make us be good". This is a choice we all make individually. (Stop and think before reacting)
4. The tone of our voice tells others how we are feeling.
Social Studies:
In Social Studies we have been able to learn about why we have rules in our world, community and home. What is means to be respectful. Why honesty is important. And, what is looks like to be a good friend. ❤️
This week we had many great days! Because we were respectful, responsible and safe----we were able to have a surprise Free Choice Time! We love to surprise them with rewards for great behavior as well as goals that we are working towards to earn a reward. Both are motivating!
We pray for all of our St. James Families that you can find God's Peace and Joy even in the hustle and bustle of this season. We are very thankful for each and every one of you.
Monday-Mrs. M is teaching
Tuesday-Friday Mrs. Luers is teaching
Mrs. M subbed for Mrs. Luers today because her son was ill on Friday, so Mrs. Luers will teach for Mrs. M on Tuesday in return.
We encourage you to be festive the next two weeks! Many teachers will be sporting Christmas attire daily and we would LOVE to have students join the fun.
