READINGS FOR SUNDAY JANUARY 2nd 2022
Second Sunday of Christmas
Ecclesiasticus 24:1-2,8-12. In this reading wisdom means more than common sense. It is linked with the idea of absolute purity and integrity, only accessible in the character of God Himself. As we search for God we occasionally glimpse true wisdom. However, God's wisdom took root in the people of Israel, was nurtured and grew there until it reached fulfillment in the person of Jesus.
Psalm 147:12-15,19-20. The Word was made flesh, and lived among us.
Ephesians 1:3-6,15-18. Jesus broke the barriers that divided us from God, allowing us the opportunity to come close to Him in a way not previously possible. To be adopted into his family means that we are full members, and as we become more responsive to God's love we participate in drawing others into a relationship with Him.
John 1:1-18. When reading such well known scripture, instead of analysing each word or phrase, it is sometimes worthwhile to take a different approach. To contemplate the images and words of the passage in an atmosphere of stillness and calm. God has no hands on Earth but ours, and to let Him act through us we need to reach a deeper knowledge of Him. A regular habit of stillness and silence can allow Him to reach us.
Readings for Next Weekend: Isaiah 40:1-5,9-11; Psalm 103:1-4,24-25,27-30; Titus 2:11-14, 3:4-7; Luke 3:15-16,21-22.

ALPHA
We are very pleased to announce that the next Alpha Course will start in January. Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each video talk looks at a different question around faith and there will be an opportunity to meet in a small group to discuss in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. It is open to anyone who would like to explore their faith. We have run 4 courses so far in St Dunstan’s, they have been well attended and the feedback has been very positive.
Given the uncertainty around COVID, we are planning an on-line format for the course so you can join from the comfort of your home. Links will be shared weekly for the video talks and then we will meet weekly with a zoom link to discuss as a small group (30 to 45 minutes). The course runs for 12 weeks.

Saturday, 5th March 2022 will be a day dedicated to talks and prayer. Closer to the time we will determine if it is safe to get together face-to-face for this day.

ST DUNSTAN'S PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND
Brochures and Booking Forms are still available from the parish office. Booking deadline is Monday 10th January. If anything related to Covid causes the pilgrimage to be cancelled, full refunds will be given.
CAFOD AFGHANISTAN CRISIS APPEAL
CAFOD is combining efforts with the Disasters Emergency Committee to launch the Afghanistan Crisis Appeal. In Afghanistan, 8 million people are on the brink of famine because of drought, collapsing economy, food shortages, conflict, and COVID. CAFOD is supporting sister Caritas agencies to reach communities most in need with food, clean water, and fuel. During Advent, when we open ourselves to the needs of others, let’s do all that we can to save lives. You can donate on the CAFOD website: cafod.org.uk/AfghanistanAppeal and please pray for the people of Afghanistan.
