Celebrating Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton
A wife, a mother, a widow, a religious, a teacher, a leader, a caregiver...we can all find something in common with Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton! Today we celebrate our dear patron saint's life and we rejoice that she is in heaven to intercede on our behalf to God.
Saint Elizabeth could probably also relate to our current COVID pandemic. She lived during a time of unprecedented sickness with the spread of Tuberculosis. We can take comfort in knowing that Saint Elizabeth and her family had to spend time in quarantine.
At her Canonization, Pope Paul VI declared, “Elizabeth Ann Seton is a saint. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is an American. All of us say this with special joy, and with the intention of honoring the land and the nation from which she sprang forth as the first flower in the calendar of the saints. Elizabeth Ann Seton was wholly American! Rejoice for your glorious daughter. Be proud of her. And know how to preserve her fruitful heritage.”
