ALPHA
We are very pleased to announce that the next Alpha Course will start on Wednesday January 12th. Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each video talk looks at a different question around faith and there will be an opportunity to meet in a small group to discuss in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. It is open to anyone who would like to explore their faith. We have run 4 courses so far in St Dunstan’s, they have been well attended and the feedback has been very positive.
Given the uncertainty around COVID we are planning an on-line format for the course so you can join from the comfort of your home. Links will be shared for the video talks and then we will meet weekly with a zoom link to discuss as a small group (30 to 45 minutes). You are still able to register your interest by clicking on the sign up button.

SISTER TERESA REDDING RIP
It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Sister Teresa Redding. Longer serving members of the parish may remember when Sr Teresa was one of three parish sisters between 1984-92 before they were recalled to their convent in Edenbridge. When that was closed, they moved to London and then the mother house in Belgium where she died. Sr Teresa was 92 and had been a sister of St Andrew for nearly 75 years. Her funeral will be held in the sisters’ chapel at Ramegnies-Chin at 14:00 on Tuesday 11th January 2022. May she rest in peace in God's love.

READINGS FOR SUNDAY JANUARY 9th 2022
The Baptism of the Lord
Isaiah 40:1-5,9-11. We spend so much of our lives waiting for something. The wait often seems long, the necessary preparation all but impossible, the whole experience tainted by a lingering fear that something might go wrong. We hope our joy will come. We hope that we have done enough to make it happen. In the same way, we wait for God, clinging to our faith, our experience and the promise that we are not alone.
Psalm 103:1-4,24-25,27-30. Bless the Lord, my soul! Lord God, how great you are.
Titus 2:11-14, 3:4-7. After the coming of Christ, his followers continued to wait. Their wait was no longer for a saviour, but for eternal life with their saviour. While the preparation is just as important, the fear is gone. St Paul tells us that the love of Christ has been given to us, not because we earned or deserve it, but because of his mercy. The chasm of our weakness is more than filled by his love.
Luke 3:15-16,21-22. John the Baptist was an enigmatic character, a man of great faith and vision who preached repentance and new life. His baptism in water, he said, was a precursor to the baptism in the Spirit that the Christ would give. He laid the groundwork, set the stage. Following the baptism of Jesus, the descent of the Spirit upon him and the words from heaven, the way forward becomes clear. There is no going back. Though we don’t hear of John’s reaction to Christ’s baptism, it must have been overwhelming to behold. His life’s work and mission were coming to fulfilment in the Messiah whom he first recognised as a baby in the womb. Now, the baptism he gives shares that revelation with the world.

Brochures and Booking Forms are still available from the parish office. Booking deadline is Monday 10th January. If anything related to Covid causes the pilgrimage to be cancelled, full refunds will be given.
FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN PRISON
Should you have been unlucky enough to have received clothes as Christmas presents which do not fit or you do not like, why not consider donating to our local Women’s Send Prison. They have a small shop there in which inmates can spend their hard-earned money, but rely on people like us to donate to the shop. So, our message to you is please help out by donating your NEW or NEARLY NEW (except underwear) clothes. They will of course need a selection of both clothes for indoors and outdoors.
Because of prison rules and for the safety of inmates we cannot accept high heeled shoes, handbags, black coats, or belts.
The Woking Catenians are organising this clothes collection over the next few weeks. Please bring any suitable clothing to church in disposable bags or other containers and place them in the dedicated area in the narthex.
