Important Week Notes

Sock Hop

The traditional sock hop will return in 2022, please mark your calendar for Friday, January 28th from 5-7PM. There will be pizza, the book fair will be open, and of course dancing in the gym.

Unity/Diversity Quilt

We are one school community; continuing with our diversity conversations, we are wanting to create a diversity quilt to showcase our students and school community. This is a family activity that will be combined to form a St. Matthew collage. Look for this coming home in Friday folders this week.

For your square - Please share something about your family’s culture: something you celebrate together, something you enjoy doing together, something that represents your family. Feel free to use colored pencils, markers, crayons, cut out pictures from magazines, use real photographs, words, images- whatever you want to use to represent your family. Please feel free to include all households on your square.

Book Fair

The Scholastic book fair will once again be open during Catholic Schools Week, please see below for the times available for shopping:

Lunch Option

We are excited to announce that we will once again bring back the option for you to eat lunch with your child(ren) during Catholic Schools Week. Given the situation of our current pandemic, we are needing to make a few changes to this process, please see below:

We ask that you only attend lunch once during the week (per child)
Please limit the number of guests to 2
We are only able to accommodate a cold lunch for guests, please use the RSVP below to let us know which day and lunch shift you will be attending
It works best to not mix students from other lunch shifts so if your schedule allows, we recommend you attend each students current lunch shift
Lunch shift times are noted on the Google Form

Oh and don't forget to stop by the book fair after you are done eating.

Catholic Schools Week Weekend Mass

We will kick off Catholic Schools Week with Saturday and Sunday services the weekend of January 29th/30th. Outlined below are the options for the students: Singers, Readers, and Greeters (their families can join as greeters!)

A description about what each option entails is included below;

SINGERS: Rehearsal one hour before Mass in the music room at church. Sing for Mass up in the choir loft.
READERS: Practice the readings at home. Arrive 20 minutes early and sign in on the sheet in Sacristy (where Father gets ready before Mass) and then sit near the front with your family. Read just like for School Mass.
GREETERS: Dress for the weather! Arrive 30 minutes early. Sign in on the sheet in the Sacristy (where Father gets ready before Mass). Find a door with no greeters yet. Open the door for people, and greet them with a big smile! Continue to greet right up to the First Reading.

Would love to see as many Jaguars as possible at mass and in these roles, please consider taking part in this opportunity.

St. Matthew Satisfaction Survey

As we embark upon Catholic Schools Week, we wanted to take this opportunity to better understand our school community and climate. We continue to work on our strategic planning efforts, especially as it relates to long range planning; having you complete this survey will be very beneficial to understanding the needs and priorities of our school.

If you could please spare a few minutes, completing this survey will provide us very valuable information. The survey will close on Friday February 4th.

Helping Those in Our Community (Metro Catholic Outreach)

In a connected show of generosity and service we have coordinated a weeklong drive among our Xavier Catholic schools to benefit Metro Catholic Outreach (MCO). MCO has identified key items they are needing and we have assigned each school specific items to bring in.

Items can be brought in throughout the week and will be collected/displayed at the main entrance; at the end of the week, items will be delivered to MCO for distribution to those in our community in need.
