"What God asks of us in return is that we love Him and that we love one another as He has loved us.” Mark 12:30-31
The Catholic Ministries Appeal-2020/2021 ended on December 31, 2021 and as a Pastorate we nearly made our goal; the final numbers are being tallied, as the diocese gives a few extra weeks to let things process with delays in the mail, so we will post those numbers when the books are officially closed. Thank you all for your generosity and stewardship!
We are looking forward to kicking off the 2022 Annual Catholic Ministries Appeal, formerly Fruitful Harvest. The theme for this appeal is “Our Grateful Response.” Jesus told us, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:12) He shows us His love every day in big and little ways, whether it is a prayer answered, or the sunrise every morning. All we have is gift from God.
How will we respond to His gifts of love? We can respond to God and to our neighbor through our prayer life and our service. In addition to our time and talent, we can provide financial support for the good works of the Local Church that are outside the scope of our local parishes.
Our parish’s commitment weekend for the 2022 Annual Catholic Ministries Appeal will be February 5-6. 2022. The appeal will run until December 31. 2022. The Catholic Ministries Appeal provides another way to financially support the good works of our Local Church, which is made up of the parishes, schools and facilities of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana, as well as our Chancery offices and staff in Lafayette.
Watch your mail throughout January! It will contain an important letter from Bishop Timothy Doherty asking for your participation in the 2022 Annual Catholic Ministries Appeal, formerly Fruitful Harvest. Also enclosed will be a brochure explaining the many ministries supported by this important appeal, as well as a pledge card with return envelope to mail your gift in. By giving to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, you are helping to support programs for our retired priests as well as new seminarians, for our youth, Newman Centers, deacons, prison ministry, pregnancy centers and so much more. I encourage you to study the mailing from Bishop Doherty and to prayerfully consider giving generously to this appeal.
Thank you for your continued stewardship and prayers for our Local Church.
“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” – 2 Cor 9:15
Thank you to everyone who helped with taking down the Christmas decorations last week, many hands, indeed, make light work. We had a good crew, inside and outside at St. Augustine after Mass on Sunday and a group of a dozen or so people showed up to Sts. Peter and Paul on Tuesday! As we enter into these weeks of Ordinary Time, let us continue to consider the many ways we can share the gifts and talents God has blessed us with to help build up His Kingdom here on Earth.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path.” – Ps 119:105
We will have the blessing and commissioning of all Lectors (Readers at Mass) at next weekend’s Masses. Next weekend (the 3rd Sunday of Ordinary Time) has been declared by Pope Francis as the “Sunday of the Word of God” and is to be devoted to the celebration, study, and dissemination of the Word of God.
God Bless,
Fr. Bennett
