The Wedding Feast of Cana
On the Second Sunday of Ordinary Time, the Church reads the account of the wedding feast of Cana (John 2:1–11). This first public miracle of Christ is depicted in one of the stained-glasses windows in the nave. This window is part of the Life of Christ series that was installed on the occasion of the Cathedral’s golden jubilee in 1956.
“On the threshold of his public life Jesus performs his first sign—at his mother's request—during a wedding feast. The Church attaches great importance to Jesus’ presence at the wedding at Cana. She sees in it the confirmation of the goodness of marriage and the proclamation that thenceforth marriage will be an efficacious sign of Christ’s presence” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1613).
