Obituary for Timothy C. Rothermel
Age 73. Passed on January 15, 2022.
Beloved husband of 34 years to the late Patricia (2018). Loving father of Katherine (Michael English) Rothermel. Dear brother of Don Rothermel. Survived by niece Cindy Rothermel and In-law to Deb and Dennis Gagnon.
Tim was born June 9, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Helen Marie (Drabik) Rothermel. Tim was the youngest of 7 children. Tim worked in construction management for his entire life and one project that he was in charge of was the People Mover in Detroit where he worked on it, from start to finish. He would comment that he built it every time he rode it. He took great pride getting things done perfectly and correctly instilled a good work ethic.
He was an avid baseball player, a very good pitcher and notoriously pitching a no-hitter at Catholic Central in 1966. Mr. Rothermel coached Katherine’s grade school team and always would stay after practice to work on throwing and catching with Katherine and they would stay until it was too dark and they couldn’t see anymore. ". He even coached Katherine’s soccer team at St. Michael’s in Livonia when they couldn't find a coach for the team and were going to cancel the season...he stepped in, even though he knew nothing about soccer and coached the team. Tim even bought a Detroit Tigers cap and gave to Katherine to match the one he always wore.
Hobbies for Tim including having his photography license, golfing to say was a passion, an avid short game player, taught everyone how important putting was, annually going to the theater in Detroit seeing Fiddler on the Roof with Theodore Bikkel and 42nd Street, and never missing the Nutcracker, being a drummer for many Polish bands, loved polka music, enjoyed vacationing in Cancun and Palm Springs and while in Palm Springs he sought out Frank Sinatra’s grave and enjoyed the ”living desert”.. an outdoor park that housed fauna and flora – taking the tram up the snow covered mountains to go exploring and he really loved to photograph out there, wine tasting in Temecula, California was also a fun time.
Tim was an active member of St. James Catholic Church, praying the rosary daily and helping the men;s club out and never missing Sunday mass.
Tim loved Catholic Central attending football games, being involved regularly and wearing his class ring throughout his life.
Tim enjoyed taking Katherine to ballet practice, he would watch from the waiting room and critique certain things...it was pretty funny and made her laugh - he would be like "that part with the pirouette into the fouette glissade was a little off today."
God Bless Tim and his family.
May Tim Rest in Peace.
